Mennonite Heritage
Waterloo Region is home to the largest population of Old Order Mennonites in Canada, particularly in the areas around St. Jacobs and Elmira. Approximately 4,000 Old Order Mennonites farm the surrounding countryside, maintaining traditional practices including horse-and-buggy transportation. Visitors often see farmers traveling to the St. Jacobs Farmers' Market by horse and buggy.
St. Jacobs Market District
The St. Jacobs Farmers' Market is Canada's largest year-round farmers' market, attracting over one million visitors annually. Open Thursdays and Saturdays year-round (plus Tuesdays in summer), over 100 local farmers, artisans and growers sell farm-fresh meats, cheese, fruits, vegetables, flowers, honey, preserves and more. The market district also includes an outlet mall and antique market.
Airport & Economic Growth
The Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) in Breslau had a record-breaking 2024 with 523,210 passengers—a 554% increase over 2019. The recently expanded terminal can now support up to one million passengers annually. Breslau's urban boundary expanded approximately 400% in 2023, with significant development planned through 2051.

Woolwich boasts over 90 kilometres of public trails, including:
- Kissing Bridge Trailway - Extending from Guelph to Millbank with stone-dust surface
- Lions Lake Trail - 7km trail encircling the Woolwich Reservoir
- Mill Race Trail - Historic trail along the Conestogo River in St. Jacobs
- Snyder's Flats - 100-hectare restored natural area with 4.5km looped trail
Kissing Bridge Trailway
Multi-use trail extending from Guelph to Millbank with hard-packed stone-dust surface, excellent for users of all ages. The portion within Woolwich parallels Line 86 to West Montrose, crossing the Grand River on the famous covered bridge.

Lions Lake Trail
7km well-maintained single track earthen trail encircling the Woolwich Reservoir. Established in 1980 by the Elmira Lions Club, suitable for hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and mountain biking.

Snyder's Flats Conservation Area
100-hectare former gravel pit restored as a natural area with ponds, forests, and grasslands. Features a 4.5km looped trail with interpretive signs. The forest was planted in partnership with the Kitchener-Conestoga Rotary Club.

West Montrose Covered Bridge
Ontario's last remaining covered bridge, built in 1881. Also known as "The Kissing Bridge," this landmark has survived high winds, floods, and ice storms. Still used by pedestrians, horse and buggies, and light vehicles to cross over the Grand River.
