What the Hygge?

January 12, 2018

Time and time again Denmark has ranked one of the happiest nations in the world. Meik Wiking, CEO of the Happiness Research Institute, was determined to find out what makes people happy and has found Denmark’s Hygge (“hoo-gah”) could be the secret!

Through our research we have found out why Hygge is so genius! It isn’t some new fad you have to learn or buy.  It is a special moment or feeling that you can experience on your own or with family and friends, in a public space or in your own home.

Hygge is PERFECT to adopt during our Kitchener-Waterloo winters, and we love implementing it into our homes. Here are just a few ideas we can’t wait to try;

  • Cook up or take out a nostalgic meal and enjoy it with your partner by candlelight
  • Set up a cosy corner with throw blankets, pillows and a new book and a tasty beverage
  • Have treasured friends over to watch your favourite 80s movie – we all have at least one

When trying to create Hygge in your home, think happiness, cosiness, simplicity and a feeling of intimacy when making space and time for yourself. Anyone can Hygge anywhere and anyway they like, that is what makes it so great!
