What to do in Waterloo Region during Family Day weekend

February 16, 2018

After months of winter the only saving grace is the Family Day long weekend! Can you believe there was a time we lived without it? Here is a list of things we want to check out in the KW area this weekend:

Bugging out for a good time? Head to the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory for the Hug-a-Bug Insect Petting zoo to discover everything from giant millipedes to hornworm catepillars! http://www.cambridgebutterfly.com/events/family-days-hug-a-bug

Missing the sunshine? Spend the holiday Monday at Kitchener City Hall for the Bring on the Sunshine African Festival for a day of culture and community! http://www.bringonthesunshine.ca/

Warm up with local heros. The KW Titans play London Lightning at The Aud on the holiday Monday in NBL Canada Action! www.kwtitans.com/scheduleresules

Join the sing-along! Centre in the Square has the Orchestra and Grand Philharmonic Youth Choir as your backup singers as you belt out your favourite tunes from Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, and more. https://centreinthesquare.com/event/sing-along-musicals/

Uptown fun! Uptown Waterloo not only has amazing shops and restaurants, but really neat events too! The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery has Play with Clay on February 18, the Waterloo Public Library has a Knits & Crochets night on February 19, if that isn’t your thing, Hepcat Swing Dance Studio is having a Monday Night Swing! http://uptownwaterloobia.com/events/

Downtown film, music, art! Kick off the long weekend this Friday with a night at The Boathouse with Craig Cardiff or the Feast for the Senses 7 at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery. If you miss the friday event at the Art Gallery, be sure to head there on February 18 for the Free February Film Series. http://www.downtownkitchener.ca/en/pages/Events.asp

We hope you have a fun-filled, safe, (and hopefully warm), Family Day Long Weekend!
